Brighter Future for Samirah
We first met Samirah when she just 16 days old. Together with her mother, Agata, they had been staying with a friend in a tiny room in Tsim Sha Tsui. They were both physically weak and not in the best health.
Samirah had jaundice when she was born, requiring her to stay in hospital for 4 additional days. Agata was also diagnosed with high blood pressure and given medication upon discharge.
Samirah’s father left when he found out Agatha was pregnant, leaving her deeply distressed. As her work visa had expired, the significant hospital bill only further compounded her stress levels and feelings of hopelessness.
To ensure Samirah’s safety, we moved her and Agata to a shelter. We also introduced Agata to other mothers via our education workshops, which provided Samirah with additional support and encouragement; her physical and mental health improved.
Our Crisis Intervention team ensured Samirah held a birth certificate, received regular health check-ups, and remained on track with all her immunisations. They also ensured that Samirah and Agata were well supported by International Social Service (ISS) for all their ongoing needs.
