I’ve been working in Hong Kong for 30 years. Over the 3 decades, I’ve had the privilege of being part of 3 families. Each family had their own values, routines, and needs. I’ve learned that the best care is always personal, respectful and consistent.
I worked for my first employer, the Yan family, for 20 years. They had one child, Chris, who recently turned 30. We are still in touch and very much in each other’s lives.
My second employer was the Beatties. It was my shortest stint.
I currently work with the Hussey family. I’ve been with them for 10 years. My primary role is to ensure their two beautiful girls are happy and safe.
I arrange playdates, pick the girls up from school, prepare meals, and also help with housekeeping. My focus is to create a home environment where everyone feels supported – through cleanliness, care, and being present in the small everyday moments that really matter.
I am thankful to the Hussey family for giving me the chance to grow. Thank you for allowing me time to contribute to the community. I am forever grateful for their trust and love – and for creating a safe space where I can be fully myself.
On the personal front, my family means everything to me. I come from a big family of 10, and I am the youngest. As I was orphaned at 15, I have always been a bit dependent; and life has taught me resilience.
My motivation to work abroad was to provide for myself and also to help my family. It has also been a way for me to find stability and opportunities, and to see the other side of life from different perspectives. My goals were simple but meaningful: to earn more, improve my skills, and create a better life for me and my family.
I co-lead the We Talk & We Listen platform. What I find impactful about it is that it creates space for understanding. It’s not only about telling the community what to do – it’s about communication, respect, and listening to each other’s needs.
Through this channel, we have been able to reach more people and connect them to relevant agencies that meet their needs. Essentially, this is an umbrella for collaboration from our team’s shared experiences from the different educational workshops we attended over the years.
I’ve grown in confidence and leadership during my tenure as a PathFinders’ Ambassador. Over time, I’ve learned how to communicate calmly, support others meaningfully, share my experiences, and help create a positive working environment.
Being an Ambassador isn’t just a role. It’s a reminder of how much I’ve learned since I first started, and how I can contribute to making the PathFinders’ community better for our fellow Migrant Domestic Workers.
When I am not volunteering, I get my hands busy by creating 3D jelly art.
