On 26th March 2025, together with other organisations serving the Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW) community and their employers, we were delighted to have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Labour Department.

As a follow-up to an initial meeting with Mr Chris Sun, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, in January 2025 we were grateful to be invited for further discussions with divisions covering Policy Support, Employment Agencies Administration and Foreign Domestic Helpers.

It was a valuable and much appreciated opportunity to provide additional details on recommendations previously submitted and to further explore collaboration areas of mutual interest, where we see clear opportunities for solutions in support of MDWs and their employers.

There are over 360,000 MDWs in Hong Kong today, who significantly contribute to our city. As confirmed during our discussions, we anticipate this heavy reliance to increase with over 600,000 MDWs forecast to be needed by around 2050 to care for our rapidly ageing population.

Together, we look forward to continuing to collaborate with the Labour Department to enhance mutual care and understanding as the cornerstone of an amicable family and employment relationship, especially as increasing numbers of households seek to hire MDWs in Hong Kong.
