We had a fantastic time at the AIA Carnival that took place in Central on 22th December 2024.
The event was part of our celebration for this year’s International Migrants Day (18th December) – a moment to honour the remarkable contributions millions of migrants make to communities, economies and countries around the world.
With the theme of celebrating care and culture, the event showcased amazing performances of various Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) communities – including Indonesian traditional music and dancing as well as Filipino stories and poetry. We also hosted a reading session with children from different cultural backgrounds reading the book “My Extra Special Aunty” in their native language.
Through these inspiring performances, we wanted to highlight to the MDW communities that they should also care for themselves and the environments, while caring for others.
It was also a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible talents of our rich and vibrant MDW community in Hong Kong. We now employ 350,000 MDWs in our city, often to care for our nearest and dearest. Not only do we benefit significantly from this sometimes-invisible care economy, but also culturally from its diversity.
