Nothing brings us more joy than witnessing PathFinders’ Ambassadors coming together to create, lead and evolve their own projects. It is even more gratifying when we can support to identify and secure opportunities for them to scale projects and increase their impact.

Migrant Writers of Hong Kong (MWHK) was co-founded by PathFinders Ambassadors Maria Nemy, Ailenemae and Liezel in March 2021. Now with almost 4,000 followers their Facebook page, it is a key platform for aspiring and talented migrant writers and artists in Hong Kong and around the world. It is both a literary page for creative writings and a home for arts and creations.

Most recently, their new project “Write to Empower: Creative Expression for Migrant Domestic Workers” has been granted funding by HER Fund. Divided into two phases, the project seeks to challenge the social exclusion and marginalisation of migrant domestic workers by building opportunities and resources for domestic workers’ self care and wellbeing, knowledge production and cultural production.

In the first phase, MWHK will initiate a writing project – Write.Able – to promote mental wellness through creative expression, and discussion of issues that impact the mental health of migrant workers. The workshops aim to empower participants to believe in their creative talents to define and express emotions and to cope with and manage anxieties or depression.

During the second phase, MWHK will deliver a series of workshops – The Writer’s Toolbox 4.0 – to develop and nurture individual and collective writing goals, and introduce collaborative creative methods. The intention is to create and share their narratives and stories with diverse audiences in Hong Kong and globally, by:

  1. Creating opportunities where migrant domestic workers can contribute to knowledge production and cultural production;
  2. Supporting migrant worker-led creative initiatives; and
  3. Fostering supportive spaces where migrant domestic workers can share their creative writing and creative works with diverse audiences.
