What activities have you been participating in?
I have been involved in a wide range of activities over the past 7 months. I had the opportunity to organise events such as the annual fundraising dinner and donor appreciation drinks, etc. On the other hand, as a fundraising intern, I was assigned tasks such as researching new fundraising opportunities, writing grant proposals and attending donors-related meetings.
Apart from doing tasks that were related to my role, I was so thrilled to have a chance to interact and meet our beneficiaries. I supported our community events, education workshops and our Christmas/ birthday parties for beneficiaries. Every opportunity was enjoyable and enabled me to learn new things.
I’ve found my time at PathFinders very meaningful and interesting. Every day I was able to handle various tasks and meet people from different walks of life. I can see the impact that we are making and that’s what truly matters.
What have you learned from this internship?
Gratitude beyond words. I have learned so much throughout this internship and it has been one of the most enjoyable internships I have ever had. First of all, all my colleagues have been really supportive and friendly. It is very aspiring to see people working together to achieve the same mission and goals. I was inspired by the stories and motivations behind them.
I am also thankful to have a great supervisor who genuinely cares about my learning goals and career development. She sometimes assigns tasks that I might not be familiar with doing and that’s how I’ve learned so much. Being a Fundraising and Events Intern at PathFinders has allowed me to see how NGO management works from a business perspective. I’ve learned how important fundraising is to an NGO as it provides a foundation to serve our clients. I’ve also learned that collaboration between different sectors (private, public and NGO) is essential to bringing our work to society.
Lastly, this internship showed me a clear direction that I am devoted to working in the NGO field. I now realise that the greatest joy is to deliver impact and make this world a better place.
Having interned with PathFinders, what kind of change in society do you hope for?
It is fundamentally important to understand the needs and concerns of beneficiaries then our society can better provide what they need to them. Empathy is key and hopefully every individual can try to put themselves into others’ shoes. I didn’t know much about the dilemma of pregnant migrant workers before working at PathFinders. I’m glad that I’ve learned to see things from different perspectives and understand more about this community.
I hope Hong Kong society can be more supportive of our migrant workers.
