Meet Our Team
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work at an NGO like PathFinders? In our new “Meet our Team” series we give you the chance to see what keeps our hardworking and dedicated team at PathFinders busy.
In today’s post, meet Business Development Manager Harriet Beavis! Harriet has been at PathFinders for almost 2 years and moved to us after working at a charitable foundation and various corporates in Singapore.
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT PATHFINDERS?
I look after fundraising, and work with our donors and supporters to ensure we have the right resources to run our programmes.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY AT PATHFINDERS LOOK LIKE IN YOUR ROLE?
My role is hugely varied; in a single day I could be pitching to a potential donor, writing a grant application, planning for our annual fundraising dinner, and meeting with PathFinders programme managers to learn about a new project and how I can best support them.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT YOUR JOB?
The people! My role requires working with an incredible community of individuals, both internally among the team, and externally with various donors and supporters. Despite different backgrounds and professions, from social workers to corporate executives, we all share a common interest and mission in supporting PathFinders. A special shout out to my colleagues who are undoubtedly the most hard-working, dedicated and humble group of people I’ve ever worked with.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO WORK AT AN NGO?
Do it! As someone who has previously worked in various corporate, philanthropic and ‘donor’ roles, I had always wondered what it would be like to work in an NGO. Working at PathFinders has been an amazing, eye-opening opportunity – I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn first hand about the challenges faced by NGOs, and the complexities of solving local and global social issues.
CAN YOU SHARE A STORY ABOUT HOW YOUR WORK DIRECTLY IMPACTS PATHFINDERS’ CLIENTS?
Given I do not work directly with our clients, I prefer to keep in mind the big picture; knowing my business skills and experience have enabled PathFinders to raise millions of dollars, which has in turn improved the lives of hundreds of vulnerable children and women.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Spending time with my three adopted dogs, hiking among Hong Kong’s stunning nature and planning my next travel adventure!
